WHY DOES MEGSON GET BOO'D?
Ugly stick recipient Gary Megson, manager of Bolton Wanderers, gets a healthy dose of heckling and booing at every game these days. Why is that? For starters, his team selections often leave fans confused and disappointed, our best players seem to get left out in favour of his best pals in the dressing room. Indeed Megson's latest batch of signings were brought in because they are "good in the dressing room!" What the heck use is that to a Bolton team who struggle to 'string together' 2 passes in a game?
Secondly, Mr Megson's idea of good tactics is to get everyone behind the ball right from the kick off in the hope we will manage a goalless draw at home against potential relegation candidates, indeed against any team we play. Same thing every game, same "tactics" deployed home and away, regardless of the opposition. He seems to everyone who watches a Bolton game to be an inept tactically challenged moron unable to come up with anything new or inspiring to win a game.
He calls Wanderers fans "fickle" and "pathetic" adding, "You have to wonder about the intelligence of these people," also "...will I ever win them over? No, no chance."
What sort of idiotic manager comes out with this type of insulting nonsense regarding his own clubs supporters. He has no decorum, no pr skills and a very tiny brain.
These are but a few of the jug eared muppets foibles, there are many more. Ask any Bolton fan.
We can't all be wrong. We have been up and down through the leagues more times than I can count, fought relegation after relegation and still kept ourselves happy, been entertained and never really complained about how well a manager has done. Not like this.
Everybody can see it but him.

Bolton Wanderers V Sunderland: Post Match Ponderings
Wanderers Mauled By Black Cats At The Reebok
A less than convincing team selection from the ginger headed man in charge saw bemused Wanderers fans fearing the worst before a ball was even kicked. England U-21 left back Jloyd Samuel was left back on the bench as Megson brought in buddy Paul Robinson from relegated West Brom. Stiensson was replaced at right back by new signing Ricketts and Gavin Mccann came into midfield ahead of Mark Davies, Mustapha Riga, Ricardo Gardener Tamir Choen, Chris Basham, Joey O'brien and new super signing Lee Chong-yung who made the bench.
Sunderland's early pressure paid off after just 4 minutes when new signing, 10 million pound man, Bent opened the scoring to send Sunderland fans into dreamland. The pressure continued with a sucession of near misses and some smart saves from in form keeper Jussi Jaskalienen. Bolton had one noteworthy chance in the first half, it was Cahill's header which was pawed away by the Sunderland goalie late in the half.
Bolton looked poor and were unanamously boo'd off at the interval by a less than impressed Reebok crowd. It seemed as though Megson's defend, defend, defend, and lump the ball upfield with a big hoof "tactics" were not going down well with the fans.
11 men back in our own box for every corner, no outlet. Megson defends this saying, we do'nt concede from corners but one Boton fan put it like this:
"all our men are back,
corner comes in, we scramble it clear, or bang it out for a throw in or straight back to one of their players who are scattered unmarked all over our half of the pitch coz all of our men are still trying to get out of the box,
so inevitably we concede possession again,
we think oh no, they are on the attack,
we keep everyone back even longer,
we clear it again, right back to the opposition again,
we come under more pressure,
we have no outlet,
we cant take the pressure off,
we cant put any pressure on the other team,
they keep on attacking coz we give them free reign to do so,
eventually they score.
its almost inevitable.
so no, we dont concede directly from corners but... our tactics on corners are just a very clear indication of our overall mentality.
the only time the other team have to even think about defending is when we get a free kick on half way which we inevitably punt long into the box, usually straight to the keeper.
That is not pressure.
Have you noticed how there is no exitement in the crowd. we just sit waiting for the free kick to be punted long, and if it doesnt go right to the keeper we get a bit exited coz there is a half chance that it might ping around in their box enough to cause a bit of a panic?
That is not what i want to get exited about."
The second half was marginally better from a Wanderers point of view however Sunderland could have run out with a 6 or 7 nil victory. Bolton did come close twice in the second half when Elmander turned smartly and rocketed a shot past the post and new boy Sean Davies blasted straight at the keeper from close range. Megson said, "if our two good chances went in we would have won". I'm so glad we have such a bright spark on board to take the team forward!
Following Megson's somewhat distorted thinking pattern, that our 2 good chances could have been goals, if every good chance were a goal Bolton would have still lost the game by about 9 goals to 2. Wake up Mr Megson and get real.
A survey online (official bwfc message board) revealed that 90% of fans questioned thought Megson should get the boot after the Sunderland debacle. That came just 48 hours after another poll suggested 73% were giving Megson their full support going into the new season. Many of those did however specify that they would support his efforts and give him one more chance to prove he is going to take us in the right direction. The Sunderland game turned many against him.
One positive (yes i said positive) to take from the game was the introduction of South Korean Lee Chong-yung mid way through the second half. He looked quick, ready and up for the fight, he covered lots of ground during his 20 or so minutes on the field and created a buzz around the ground whenever he picked up the ball. He beat three men on his own down the right but was denied a corner after the ball deflected out of play. Many fans are looking forward to him starting the next game where Wanderers face Hull at the KC Stadium.

Bolton V Sunderland Score Prediction
Today I'm going for a draw. Sunderland are brining a new look side to the Reebok and going off Gary Megson's general choice of tactics and the way we shaped up in pre-season I think he will start off cautiously. I think we will only score as many goals as we need for a draw, if they get one, we weill try to get one, if they get two, we we try to get two, we won't try to get more.

Bolton Wanderers V Sunderland Preview
Wanderers will face a tough test against a new look Black Cats side at the Reebok on Saturday. The opening fixture of the new campaign could see Megson field at least 4 of his five summer signings.
Defenders Knight and Ricketts have been impressive in pre-season and are ready to take their place in Megson's starting eleven. However Gretar Steinsson will be looking to retain his position at right back after making it his own during his first season with the club. At left back Paul Robinson could squeeze out Jloyd Samuel, although he doesn't look as solid he seems to be a Megson favourite. Cahill will without doubt be in the starting line up.
Bolton's defence could be in for a real test with Sunderland set to unleash new signings Fraizer Campbell and Darren Bent alongside the skill and pace of Kenwyn Jones.
Sunderland's most recent recruit, Lee Cattermole, will be joined by fellow midfielder Lorik Cana whilst Paraguay defender Paulo Da Silva will finally link up with his new teammates after having his visa application granted, but is unlikely to play due to a lack of match fitness.
Bolton meanwhile are still on the look out for attackers but are likely to field new midfielder Sean Davies brought in on a free and there may be a shock debut for South Korean winger Lee after he was officially unveiled by the club today.
Bolton are likely to stick with a similar system to last season with Elmander up front and Kevin Davies as second striker or possibly out wide.
Teams: Bolton (from): Jaaskelainen, Steinsson, Ricketts, Cahill, A O'Brien, Knight, Gardner, Robinson, Samuel, Taylor, Davis, McCann, Elmander, Basham, K Davies, Al Habsi, Hunt, Cohen, M Davies, Lee.
Sunderland (from): Fulop, Bardsley, Ferdinand, Collins, McCartney, Cana, Cattermole, Richardson, Reid, Malbranque, Campbell, Bent, Jones, Nosworthy, Da Silva, Leadbitter, Henderson, Tainio, Edwards, Healy, Carson.

BOLTON FINALLY ANNOUNCE LEE DEAL
Bolton have completed the signing of Lee Chung-yong from FC Seoul on a three-year contract.
A deal was struck some time ago and the transfer has now been finalised after the South Korea international was granted a work permit and received international clearance.
The details of the agreement have not been disclosed but it is understood that Lee has arrived for a fee of around £2.2million. The 21-year-old becomes Bolton's fifth summer signing and could now go straight into the squad for Saturday's home game against Sunderland.
However, Megson is likely to choose the cautious route in my opinion after saying, "It will take time for him to settle", and "It is going to be a big challenge for him because he is coming to a new country and a new culture and he will be facing the demands of the Premier League.
Lee would be ready for action though as he is fully match fit since FC Seoul's season kicked off some weeks ago nor is he suffering from jet lag.
Lee's arrival has been long anticipated by fans and it would be a huge boost to Wanderers if he can show the same form for Bolton as he did at his former club.

FAN FURY AT MEGGO U-TURN
A mini revolt is occurring amongst Bolton fans after ugly looking manager Gary Megson back tracked on comments he made two months ago regarding Bolton's well known unattractive playing style and "dour performances".
Megson was quoted originally as saying "I would like to change the style that we play as I felt that was one of the reasons the club struggled last season." He also stated, "We had to take it back a little bit, get the results at times and not play in the way we would have liked. There were some really dour, grinding performances..."
Those comments were made in the run up to season ticket sale time, and some fans think it may have been a tactic to boost sales after many fans vowed not to renew due to the substandard displays churned out by Megson and his band of not too merry men during the 2008/09 campaign.
One fans forum poster wrote "maybe all the "we are going to change the style" was all lets try and sell season tickets guff!"
The comments leading to the sudden turn against Megson who was already teetering on the edge of universal unpopularity were made less than a week before the new season was due to kick off.
Megson said, "A lot was made of me changing the style... People might not see a great deal of change to be perfectly honest but what I wanted to do was bring in more of the same with the intention of being able to do certain things better."
He added insult to injury for those fans really hoping for somthing new saying, "We`re not going to suddenly start playing any differently - the idea is to play the same system, the same style"...
Gary Megson isn't doing himself any favours and is lucky many Bolton fans are so forgiving, he seems to regularly insult their intelligence, calls their support into question and seems not to care at all about his populairity with the fans adding, "Bolton fans are fickle".
The season kicks off on Saturday when Bolton take on North East relegation candidates Sunderland. Megson will have chance to show his hand and show the Wanderers faithful what he has in store. It could be a long hard slog for Megson and the fans if things don't change for the better.
